Newsletter scientifique #3 - February 2012



Foremost, this month we would like to bring attention to the 2nd Call for Applications for University Chairs of Excellence by the Universities of Paris, deadline March 21st. The RBUCE-UP project is looking for 12 junior and 2 senior researchers willing and able to develop a strong international scientific partnership.

Furthermore, we present a link to the latest guidance given by the E.U. concerning genetically modified organism and the concerns over food and feed from such livestock and their welfare.

We would also like to highlight the Mathematical Newspaper based at Lycée Français de Chicago. Please discover the links to each of these three topics and many others throughout this edition.

Mathematiquement votre - Newsletter from Lycée Français de Chicago

Mathematiquement votre is a math newspaper based at the Lycee Francais de Chicago. Most of the journalists are students from the scientific section, but they can also be voluntary math-passionnated parents, teachers, and some other journalists from other cities such as : Los Angeles, Paris, Toulouse, Amiens... and very soon from other countries such as : Canada, South America, Spain, North Africa...the goal is to show many faces of math, to prove that math is fun, interesting, and that math are all around us ! This newspaper, with more than 50 pages this month, aims to share our passion for math, and makes you feel alive like never thanks to math ! Georgia Tech develops software for the rapid analysis of foodborne pathogens - Feb 13th

OriginOil, INL to develop direct conversion of algae into bio-oil - Jan 23rd

Los Angeles-based algae technology developer and provider OriginOil Inc. and the U.S. DOE’s Idaho National Lab have announced plans to co-develop an integrated system for direct conversion of algae into renewable crude oil that can be further refined into a host of advanced biofuels and other biobased chemicals by existing petroleum refineries. Joint U.S./Japan project for better biofuels - Jan 24th

A better understanding of how algae can be used to make biofuels is the aim of a new joint project between UC Davis and the University of Tokyo, Japan.
