Feb 20 – 24, Amselem will cast 5 - 6 Minnesota dancers (men and women) through a workshop process. A public "work-in-progress" showing will take place at the end of residency in June.
On Wednesday, Feb 22, Johan Amselem will perform at 9x22 Dance/Lab, Bryant Lake Bowl, in Minneapolis at 8pm.
Johan Amselem studied at the Toulon Opera House Dance School, National Conservatory of Dance in Avignon, and National Center of Contemporary Dance in Angers, directed by L’Esquisse Company – Joëlle Bouvier and Régis Obadia. He has worked with Laura Scozzi, Helle Bach (Da Da Dans Company), Carolyn Carlson, and many others. His company, La Halte-Garderie (The Nursery), is sponsored by Paris City Hall.
Amselem is a choreographer of many contemporary/modern dance solos and duos, often performed in very atypical ways such as choreographic walks around gardens and other public spaces. He also choreographs for popular performances in theaters such as the musical Froufrou les Bains, which won the Moliere Award in 2002 for best musical. He is known throughout Paris for his site-specific work and large scale flash mob dances set to electro music.
