"It is an honor to award Mr. Elimane Mbengue the insignia of Knight in the Order of the Academic Palms. In Portland like in Kansas City, he has successfully brought French culture and language to the lives of generations of students. In Kansas City, he has led the Academy Lafayette, an important immersion school that continues to grow, to an unprecedented level of success, with the full support of the board and the parents. It is an immense asset for Kansas City, as well as for France and more broadly to Francophonie, to be able to rely on personalities such as Mr. Mbengue, a native of Nioro du Rip. With him, it is the entire education community of Academy Lafayette that is honored as well as his family," said Consul General Lacroix.
Elimane Mbengue joined Académie Lafayette as Head of School in 2012. He was born and raised in Senegal, where he graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Dakar as a school district administrator.
